Dr. George Ochiri is the Chief Executive Officer of Harambee Sacco Society Ltd, a leading Sacco in Kenya with an asset base of over Kshs. 30 billion.
In its 50-year history, Harambee Sacco has earned a reputation as one of the most successful Saccos in Kenya. Guided by its purpose of “Empowerment, Development, Security”, 157 staff members at Harambee Sacco are inspired by our desire to empower members through affordable credit thereby improving their living standards.
Taking Harambee Sacco as a ship, Dr. Ochiri’s mandate is to steer it to deep waters with bigger opportunities and turbulences. He hopes to leave a stronger foundation that shall push it to prosperity for another 50 years.
During his tenure as CEO, he has led the society to reclaim its lost glory and become an enviable institution set to spread its tentacles far and wide in Kenya and outside through the Diaspora membership.
One thing that Dr. Ochiri takes pride in is the resilience of our members. They have been with the Sacco no matter its circumstances. He reckons that the potential to improve is huge and the desire to improve is equally amazing amongst the stakeholders.
Dr. Ochiri’s career spans over 20 years within the Co-operative movement. He Joined Harambee Sacco in 2018 as the Chief Executive Officer. Before joining Harambee Sacco, he served as the CEO at Safaricom Sacco.
Dr. Ochiri is a man of great success. He was named the CEO of the Year 2016 – Champions of Governance Awards (COG Awards).
He has also been active in the area of education and is a Council member of Rongo University, an adjunct faculty member at the Strathmore University, and a part time lecturer at JKUAT. Dr. Ochiri has served in numerous boards and is currently a board member at Kenya Fisheries Services.
Dr. Ochiri is a PHD holder in Supply Chain Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT). He holds a Masters’ Degree in Procurement & Logistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) & a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Studies & Sociology from Kenyatta University (KU)
He is a CPA (K). He is a member of Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) and a Certified Management Coach from Strathmore University.
In his nature, the CEO of this esteemed organization is very approachable and dons a calm demeanor.
He enjoys watching football and a good read in his free time.
